Shipping from Taiwan to the Philippines

Taiwan sits about 1,000km from Luzon. It is one of the closest manufacturing markets you have access to, and one of the least used by Filipino importers.

The proximity nobody uses

Taiwan is closer to Manila than most of China's manufacturing regions. Ocean transit between Kaohsiung and Philippine ports is short by any standard, and there are frequent sailings.

Yet most Filipino importers never consider it. They go to China by default, because that is what everyone talks about. That default is often right — but not always, and knowing when it is wrong is worth money.

What Taiwan is actually good for

Taiwan does not compete with China on price for commodity goods. It competes on quality and specialisation, and in specific categories it wins clearly.

• Electronic components and accessories. Taiwan's electronics manufacturing is world-class. For components, cables, chargers and peripherals where reliability matters, the quality gap is real.
• Machinery and tools. Taiwanese machine tools and hardware have a strong reputation for durability. If you are supplying trade customers who will notice failures, this matters.
• Bicycle and automotive parts. A genuine global centre of excellence.
• Food, snacks and beverages. Taiwanese snacks, tea and bubble-tea supplies have real demand in the Philippines, and the supply chains are mature.
• Cosmetics and personal care. Smaller than K-beauty, but growing and less crowded.

Where to source

• Taiwantrade — the government-backed B2B platform. Verified suppliers, English throughout, and a sensible starting point.
• Alibaba's Taiwan suppliers — familiar interface if you already buy from China.
• Trade shows — Taipei hosts major cycle, electronics and machinery shows. If you are sourcing seriously in those categories, going once will teach you more than a year of browsing.
• Direct factory contact — many Taiwanese manufacturers are mid-sized, responsive to email, and comfortable with English. Less of a language barrier than mainland China.

Duty and paperwork

Taiwan is not part of ASEAN, so Form E preferential rates do not apply. Goods from Taiwan generally enter at standard MFN duty rates.

That is a genuine cost difference against China, and you should factor it into any comparison. Run the landed cost both ways before deciding — the cheaper unit price does not always win once duty is applied.

When Taiwan is the right answer

Ask yourself one question: what does it cost me when this product fails?

If a customer returns it and you refund ₱300, source cheap. If it damages your reputation, voids a warranty, or means a trade customer never orders again, the extra unit cost from Taiwan is cheap insurance.
